**Marijuana is completely illegal in Tennessee for both medical and recreational purposes.** Tennessee has no comprehensive medical marijuana program. Marijuana is classified as a Schedule IV drug under state law. • 2021 – Medical Cannabis Commission Created: SB 118 establishes Tennessee Medical Cannabis Commission, improves CBD law for more conditions, and increases allowable THC limit to 0.9%.
• 2025 – Commission Extended; Hemp Regulations Tightened: HB 0255 extends Medical Cannabis Commission to June 30, 2029; Governor signs HB 1376 banning THCA and synthetic cannabinoids effective January 1, 2026, and transferring hemp oversight to ABC.

Tennessee does not have legal possession limits for marijuana because all marijuana possession is illegal except for very limited low-THC CBD products.
